Long before the days of social media, XBOX, the internet or even Tickle Me Elmo we celebrated the magical time of Christmas. Christmas has long been a tradition for homes across the world. The excitement of walking down the streets or in the malls adoring the outfit that the mannequin so perfectly wore, that shiny necklace you could dream of be placed around your neck on Christmas morning, or even that train set you could watch for hours circling around the Christmas Tree. If you talk to someone born before the 80's you are likely to hear more stories of.. we didn't have much, but we had each other.
Simpler Christmas times may have been just receiving a pair of hand knitted socks from your mother, a baseball or glove that your father looked forward
to playing catch with you in the Spring, a brooch that was once your grandmothers who your mother felt you were finally responsible enough
to wear and cherish, it could have been just a special piece of fruit that your parents spent a few extra pennies on that year, Christmas
was once a time where gift giving could simply be a fruitcake your neighbor made especially for you, ornaments you made yourself to place on a Christmas
Tree that your Dad and big brother cut out in the woods themselves and walked back home. You probably have memories of singing Christmas Carols while
putting an extra piece of wood in the stove just for that special Christmas night.
When we discussed decorating our very First Christmas on Main Street, we of course went searching on Pinterest and Google, trying to search
for something that represented "US". Sure, there were all kinds of fancy themes, magazine worthy designs but then we thought... why not
"traditional". When most people think of Christmas they think of color... red & green, Christmas lights, gift boxes, riding down that long hill
in a sleigh on a cold snowy day, a fun little choo choo train with Santa in back that circles around the tree, you think of presents and candy canes, but for us we also think of the most important "thing". For us Christmas is so much more than the fancy decorations, Christmas is Christ. We were sure to add a nativity scene, small and simple like you would find on a mantle or side table in any home.
We can often go overboard with Christmas these days, we over spend, over decorate, over stress. When in reality if we just sat back and recognized that Christmas means so much more then all those things, we may think twice about the over doing. At Christmas time and all year long our words should be kinder, our hearts should be warmer, and our families and loved ones remembered. When we think of Christmas, we think of "Christ is born", he was born to shine his light and love upon us, so that one day we can live in eternity with him. Just read the words of this beautiful Christmas Hymn written in 1847 and
is just as powerful today:
"O holy night! The stars are brightly shining,
It is the night of our dear Savior's birth.
Long lay the world in sin and error pining,
Till He appear'd and the soul felt its worth.
A thrill of hope, the weary world rejoices,
For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn.
Truly He taught us to love one another;
His law is love and His gospel is peace.
Chains shall He break for the slave is our brother;
And in His name all oppression shall cease.
Sweet hymns of joy in grateful chorus raise we,
Let all within us praise His holy name."
This is just a window decorated for Christmas to most people walking or driving by. But, to us this is a window of hope. God has brought our dreams farther then we ever imagined he would. We couldn't do it without his promises and without our fans. We wish you all a beautiful and very Merry Christmas! Thank you for
an amazing year and please remember to shop small this year, you literally help make our dreams come true by continuing to pray for us, support us, share our posts, hand out our business cards or simply post a photo of yourself wearing something you got from us!
